The board of the Twinning in Cuijk was asked if it would be possible to organise a tour for Louisa. Despite the limited time we were given to make this possible, we succeeded. Our thanks go to Huub who took up this request and gave us an interesting tour.
 
Het bestuur van de Twinning in Cuijk kreeg de vraag of het mogelijk was een rondleiding te organiseren voor Louisa. Ondanks de krappe tijd die ons gegeven werd om dit mogelijk te maken is het toch gelukt. Onze dank gaat dan ook uit naar Huub die dit verzoek heeft opgepakt en een boeiende rondleiding heeft verzorgd.

Louisa was warmly welcomed by Huub at Lunchroom De Looierij.
After coffee and tea, Huub took us to the shop. Here they sell creative articles made by clients. Next, we went to the bakery where no bread is baked, but biscuits are. The idea here is that everyone with a disability should be able to participate. Both the higher and the lower level. Nobody needs to be on the sidelines, Huub said. We have divided up the work. There are tasks that call for more complex actions and simple actions, such as doing the washing up.
 
Louisa werd door Huub hartelijk ontvangen bij Lunchroom De Looierij.
Na de koffie en thee nam Huub ons mee naar het winkeltje. Hier worden creatieve artikelen verkocht die door cliënten gemaakt zijn. Vervolgens ging het naar de bakkerij waar geen brood, maar wel koekjes gebakken worden. Insteek hierbij is dat iedereen met een beperking mee moet kunnen doen. Zowel het wat hoger niveau, alsook het lager niveau. Niemand hoeft aan de kant te staan, zei Huub. We hebben het werk opgedeeld. Er zijn taken die een appel doen op wat meer complexe handelingen en op eenvoudige handelingen, zoal bijv. de afwas doen.

The tour then went to Bio Plaza Cuijk, a shop full of organic products. A deliberate choice because this fits in with the philosophy of the Foundation. Five clients work here every day under the supervision of one or two employees.
 
Vervolgens ging de tour naar Bio Plaza Cuijk, een winkel vol biologisch verantwoorden producten. Een bewuste keus omdat dit past binnen de filosofie van de Stichting. Dagelijks werken hier vijf cliënten onder begeleiding van één of twee medewerkers.

Besides the activities in the bakery and the shop, the Dienstverlening Cuijk Foundation also runs a launderette. Washing, drying, ironing and folding. The dirty laundry is collected from the home and returned clean and fresh. The launderette also does laundry for entrepreneurs in the hospitality sector in and around Cuijk.
 
Naast de activiteiten in de bakkerij en de winkel heeft Stichting Dienstverlening Cuijk ook een wasserette. Wassen, drogen, strijken en vouwen. De vuile was wordt thuis opgehaald en schoon en fris retour gebracht. De wasserette wast ook voor horeca ondernemers in en rondom Cuijk.

There is also time and space for relaxation and creativity. Clients make their own drama production, are taught by a drama teacher and give a performance.
In the studio, people work on all kinds of products in a creative and original way. These products are for sale in the shop where the tour began.
 
Er is ook tijd en ruimte voor ontspanning en creativiteit. Cliënten maken een eigen toneel productie, krijgen les van een docent drama en geven een voorstelling.
In het atelier wordt op een creatieve en originele manier aan allerlei producten gewerkt. Deze producten zijn te koop in het winkeltje waar de rondleiding begon.

As well as the various forms of day care, there is also the possibility of finding a suitable place to live. One of the principles here is that living and working can be combined.
 
Naast de verschillende vormen van dagbesteding is er ook de mogelijkheden om een geschikte woonplek te vinden. Een van de uitgangspunten hierbij is dat wonen en werken gecombineerd kunnen worden.

The tour was fantastic. But above all, it was good to see that this introduction might be a first step towards getting to know each other better. There was a connection between Louisa and Huub with regard to promoting self-reliance for people who are disadvantaged in the labour market. A shared view that clients are indeed capable of making their own choices. They may need support in doing so, but support is different from taking over control and making decisions over the heads of clients.
Louisa and Huub have expressed to each other that they will seriously consider what the next step might be. What is certain is that they now know of each other's existence.
 
De rondleiding was fantastisch. Maar het was bovenal goed om te zien dat deze kennismaking wellicht een eerste stap is om elkaar beter te leren kennen. Er was een connectie tussen Louisa en Huub met betrekking tot het bevorderen van zelfredzaamheid voor mensen met achterstand op de arbeidsmarkt. Een gedeelde opvatting dat cliënten wel degelijk in staat zijn om zelf keuzes te maken. Misschien hebben ze daar ondersteuning bij nodig, maar ondersteuning is wat anders dan het overnemen van de regie en beslissingen nemen over de hoofden van cliënten heen.
Louisa en Huub hebben naar elkaar uitgesproken om serieus na te denken wat een volgende stap kan zijn. Zeker is wel dat ze nu van elkaars bestaan afweten.

The meeting of these two passionate professionals, both working for a social service organisation, fits perfectly with one of Twinning's objectives:
